The article addresses research that seeks to explore the relationship between technology and the environment throughout history, with a focus on the interdisciplinary nature of Environmental History. The research problem is to understand how technological development has affected and continues to affect the environment in a historical context. The objective is to identify how technological development has been impacting the environment, using the theory of the history of technology by Petrick Geddes and Lewis Mumford. The methodology is qualitative and bibliographic in nature, with research conducted in books and contributions related to the theoretical construct of Geddes and Mumford. The conclusions highlight the complex and multifaceted relationship between technology and the environment, as well as the importance of transitioning to clean energy sources and sustainable technological solutions to mitigate climate change and preserve the environment.
