Spatial transformations in the city of Vitória do Xingu-PA from the construction of the belo monte hydroelectric plant

Abstract

In the Amazon, the implementation of large investment projects has caused a set of developments in the spaces where they are inserted, before, during and after construction, therefore, it is important to understand these changes. This work makes an analysis of the specificities of the city of Vitória do Xingu, in the state of Pará, a city that was inserted in the context of the Large Investment Projects from the construction of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Plant, in the municipal territory since 2011. based on the population's perception of the particularities and urban specificities of the municipality, through semi-structured interviews with different local subjects, mapping, photographic records, bibliographical and documental research were used. It was verified that the construction of the Power Plant is the main responsible for the spatial transformations in the city of Vitória do Xingu due to the use of royalties, distinguishing it from other riverside cities in the regional context. Judging by the interviewees, the study discussed here explains the liking for investments, mainly in the leisure area, as well as, the population denounces, the imposition of new forms of organization and relationship between themselves and with the restructured space. The construction of the plant was decisive in the scenario of changes in the structure of the city, given that the city did not present significant changes in the periods that preceded the arrival of the enterprise.
