Comunicação e Ciência na Amazônia

o Instagram como aliado no agendamento de temas invisibilizados sobre a região amazônica

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the relationship between Public Communication of Science (PCS) and the agenda-setting of silenced themes in the Amazon region, observing Instagram’s role as a strategic tool for circulating scientific content that dialogues with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The research starts from the observation that, despite its ecological and geopolitical relevance, the Amazon remains on the margins of national public and media agendas, especially regarding issues such as poverty, inequality, sanitation, and access to education. Based on a mixed methodology combining action research and content analysis, the study investigates Instagram’s potential in constructing meanings and increasing visibility of scientific themes connected to Amazonian realities. Data collected between 2022 and 2023 through the BuzzSumo platform, as well as the analysis of communication strategies from profiles like @portaldaciencia, reveal that local agents’ appropriation of digital languages can significantly contribute to democratizing science and repositioning the Amazon as a protagonist in sustainable development narratives.
