Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated the social problems of the population that was already living in a situation of social vulnerability, which demanded from the governnment a social intervention task force, with social workers being one of the main professionals summoned to mediate responses. This article analyzes the working conditions of social workers at the specialized police station in the municipality of Parintins-Amazonas in the first two years of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the (new) configuration that social demands took on during social isolation. Social isolation has brought different processes in the configuration of the social problems presented by the population due to the use of information technologies. This work used a methodology focused on qualitative approaches, using a bibliographic and field research with two social workers who work at the Specialized Police Station in Parintins, who were on the front line at the most acute momento f the pandemic, 2020 and 2021. The conclusion ponts out that the pandemic had a considerable impacto on the work of social workers, who had to deal with excessive demands and working with minimal safety conditions, in a way that directly affected the physical and mental health of these professionals.
