Abstract

This study investigated the myths about High Skills / Giftedness (AH / SD) that permeate the thinking of elementary school teachers at a school in the state of São Paulo, located on the east side of the city of São Paulo. Sixteen teachers participated in the research, two from each subject. Through a questionnaire about the myths surrounding HA / SD and about the academic training and professional experience of teachers, it was found that some mistaken beliefs still populate the thinking of teachers about students with HA / SD. Most teachers still believe that AH / SD is a characteristic that depends exclusively on environmental stimuli, that students with artistic gifts do not need stimulation as much as those with high math or language skills, than students with AH / SD they do not need special care and they perform well in all school subjects. The study also pointed out the precariousness with which the theme related to AH / SD and special education in general is addressed both in the initial training courses of teachers and in the collective hours of the school.
