Referential Experiences of the Brazilian Indigenous Education

Abstract

The article presents the concept of referential school, authentic trademark of this study, talks about this mainly when addresses to the referential schools as such, for banning the teaching of the western knowledge with the traditional one. Also brings referential Brazilian indigenous schools of three different regions (North, Northeastern and Midwest). Bringing the discussion on the necessity of teaching the traditional knowledge at the indigenous school and not only the universal one such as defended by a trend of the studies on indigenous school education. The historical starting point of the indigenous school education happened in Acre. Both there and in other regions, the developed method at the considered referential schools was Paulo Freire one. The importance of the indigenous school education was paramount in the formation of the indigenous organizations, responsible for the advance of the indigenous rights of the Federal Brazilian Constitution of 1988.
