Abstract
The work “O que é arte” (What's art) offers subsidies to rethink practices and understandings linked to the “art” concept. Through a historical tour, Jorge Coli proposes us to reflect on the term with an emphasis on works of art, making it clear, at the end of the book, that he does not intend to outline a theory of aesthetics, nor explain about the artists. We conclude that thinking about art is to extrapolate formal and scientific reasoning, since the work of art is something that “affects” the one who contemplates it, needing a deep dialogue with it. In order to obtain it, the concept that the author develops is considered fundamental: attendance, so difficult to be carried out in an unequal country like Brazil.
