Da invisibilidade à visibilidade
a participação de uma mulher quilombola na luta pelo reconhecimento do território
Abstract
This manuscript aims to discuss the invisibility of quilombola women in the process of recognizing territories as quilombola communities. The analysis articulates the dimensions of gender and race, considering the condition of these women as Black women. Initially, a brief historical contextualization of the struggle for the recognition of quilombola communities in Brazil is presented. Next, the narrative of Maria, a quilombola woman, activist, community leader, and advocate for the rights of quilombola peoples and artisanal fishing, residing in a rural community in the Recôncavo Baiano region, municipality of Maragogipe, is presented. Maria exemplifies the female role in defending the territory, confronting the violence perpetrated by local landowners and the historical invisibility of Black women. Her work is central to community visibility, the guarantee of territorial rights, and the preservation of cultural identity. This manuscript is part of postdoctoral research conducted between 2022 and 2023.
