The Amazon on the military regime's agenda:
an analysis of the Realidade magazine
Abstract
This article presents the results of a research that analyzed journalistic articles about the Brazilian Amazon produced by the Realidade magazine in two distinct periods: the first three years of the magazine's existence (1966 to 1968) and the first three years of the beginning of the implementation of the National Integration Plan, which included the construction of the Transamazon Highway and the creation of settlements in the region (1971 to 1973). Using the Content Analysis methodology, we examined the main environmental themes addressed in the reports in order to understand how the magazine framed the journalistic plans of the federal government, at the time of the military regime, for the region.
