Abstract

The horizon of this study is the evidence and traces present in documentary and bibliographic sources related to the history and memory of the creation of the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI) and the Department of Education (DE) and its transition to the Center for Educational Sciences (CCE) ). With a time frame between 1968, the year that marks the institution of Law 5.528 / 68, founding UFPI, until 1975, when the CCE was implemented through Resolution No. 10/75. The purpose of this text is to compare and discuss the history and memory linked to the creation of UFPI, DE and CCE. Based on documentary and bibliographic sources, we seek to answer the following questions: How did the process of creating UFPI go? How did the conception of DE occur? How did the transition from DE to CCE happen? Therefore, the rescue of history and memory linked to the formalization of the first University of Piauí, taking into account the construction of the DE, after its transition to CCE, the main locus of teacher training in the State, is salutary.
