Abstract

This article describes and analyses processes of territory precarization by which Terena people has been historically subjugated since the early moments of contact with the European origin colonizers that affected and continue to affect drastically the indigenous way of life. The main purpose is to comprehend how the colonialist measures dictated by national society segments and mainly by the State impacted on the mentioned ethnic group, compromising their autonomy and forcing the community to alter its social organization, usages, territoriality and its relationship with nature. The pieces of information gathered here were researched through the reading of a wide range of academic publications and interpreted in light of human sciences contemporary theories.
