Abstract

This is a study of ecocritical thought focused on concerns surrounding globalization. This is a recent concern among ecocritics, a topic that has been under-recognized in recent years. Through the perspective of the imaginary, this work aims to understand the global imaginary within Thiago de Mello's poetry. It is from the perspective of place that we will better understand the relationships that constitute this imaginary, as it relates to global issues, amid information technology and contemporary ecological awareness. These relationships, for Lawrence Buell, stem from a local-global dialectic that enables imagining on larger scales that transcend place. Reflection based on theories of the imaginary is fundamental to bringing a cultural understanding to the constitution of this global imaginary, broadening discussions of environmental issues.
