About the Journal

Somanlu: Journal of Amazonian Studies publishes original works in the broad field of the Humanities, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches, resulting from research conducted about and in the Amazon. The journal accepts contributions in the form of articles (for Thematic Dossier and Open Topics sections), methodological notes, book reviews and interviews in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.

The journal is managed by the Graduate Program in Society and Culture in the Amazon (PPGSCA) at the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM), with support from the  Center for Information and Communication Technology (CTIC).

Mission and Objectives

Promote knowledge about the Amazon through the publication of original works based on scientific and academic research in the broad field of Humanities, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches.

Regarding its objectives, the journal aims to:

  1. Disseminate scientific and academic research on the Amazon in the field of Humanities;
  2. Ensure high standards of excellence and editorial quality by publishing original and relevant articles that contribute to the advancement of scientific and academic knowledge;
  3. Stimulate the production and dissemination of interdisciplinary research, fostering critical reflection and the deepening of knowledge in light of the complexity of human phenomena and dynamics;
  4. Ensure diversity, equity, and the inclusion of plural themes within the journal’s scope;
  5. Provide a platform for visibility and circulation of scientific and academic work by researchers affiliated with Amazonian institutions.

 

Periodicity

The journal is published biannually, but occasionally releases special editions.

Open Access Policies

No processing fees are required from authors, and all published articles have universal free access for readers in an online format under a Creative Commons License version 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). Thus, the journal upholds the principle of democratizing knowledge by freely disseminating high-quality scientific and academic production.
