BETWEEN PRESTIGE, POWER AND CAPITAL EXCHANGE: THE IDEAL CLUBE'S ELITES
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to discuss the attributions, associations and articulations performed by the elites that participated in the Ideal Clube between the years 1903 to 1920. The recreational association established itself as an important space for the elites to consolidate their personal agreements and politicians. In addition, Ideal Clube throughout the 20th century carried out programs and exposed its bourgeois way of life as a mechanism of social distinction. Through the use of newspapers, the method of analysis and prosopographic inspiration, this research will reflect on: a) who were the elites that made up the Ideal Clube; b) the criteria and values included in the interests of power groups in joining a recreational club and, c) which networks, links and strategies adopted by the elites in the reproduction of personal and collective capital.
