This article examines the connections between the ethical principle of responsibility, formulated by Hans Jonas, and environmental education in Mozambique, analyzing how this ethical approach can underpin educational practices aimed at sustainability and intergenerational preservation. Jonas's ethics, emphasizing "care for the future," proposes an extended responsibility towards future generations and highlights the need to preserve the conditions for life on Earth. This study discusses the possibilities of applying this ethical principle in the Mozambican context, where the balance between economic development and environmental conservation is a constant challenge. The analysis includes examples of environmental education projects that, to some extent, already incorporate these principles of responsibility, showing how the appreciation of local knowledge and cultural practices can strengthen environmental ethics. It concludes that environmental education based on ethical responsibility is fundamental to fostering a culture of sustainability that respects both the local cultural context and global preservation needs, while also suggesting avenues for future research and educational policies.
