Abstract

In the present text, translated by Donatella Natili, Haruki Murakami deals with issues related to the translation and reading of his own writing in other foreign languages. “At first, I always skim over the English translation of my novels, and if I start reading them, I find them so interesting (because I do not usually remember the plot) that I get excited and amuse myself. So I end up reading it all the way through”. Thus, Haruki Murakami reinforces the creative work of the translator in the new work: the translation.

Author Biography

Donatella Natili, Universidade de Brasília (UnB)

Doutora em Literatura Japonesa Moderna e Contemporanêa no Departamento de Teoria Literária da UnB, realizou pós-doutorado na Universidade Waseda, Japao (2014). Possui Mestrado em Literatura Japonesa pela Universidade de Brasília (2005) e Especialização em Cultura Japonesa pela Universidade Meiji de Tókio, Japão (1992) e Graduação em Língua e Literatura Japonesa pela Universidade La Sapienza (1990) de Roma. Tem experiência na área de Mídia, Tradução, Relações Internacionais, Ensino da Cultura e Literatura Japonesa, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Literatura japonesa moderna e contemporânea, Poesia japonesa moderna, Estudos de gênero, Cinema e literatura.
