Methodological Analysis on Qualitative Data Collection from Textual, Media and Virtual Techniques

Abstract

This article carried out a bibliographic review to analyze the book “Collecting Qualitative Data – a practical guide to textual, media and virtual techniques”. A qualitative approach was used regarding its objective, and a descriptive analysis was carried out in the form of a review of the thirteen chapters of the book, with clippings of direct quotes referring to the researchers' experience reports. Among the results, the procedures for qualitative research planning in research fields in the social and health areas, the criteria for defining a problem question, the requirements for research design, sampling, ethical issues and types of data analysis in the use of data collection instruments in virtual and media environments, with emphasis on: qualitative surveys, filling in stories, vignettes, requested diaries, radio, magazines, newspapers, blogs, forums, online news, reader comments, email interviews, instant messaging (IM), Skype and online focus groups.
