Grief over death and its manifestations in adults

Abstract

This study presents the varied physical reactions, feelings, and behaviors demonstrated by those bereaved, enabling us to identify the importance of psychotherapy in assisting the grieving process and of existing support groups. It arose from the need to understand the reasons for intense reactions manifested during the mourning process. Grief is a unique and personal experience for each person, and there is no rigid sequence of stages that standardizes the process. The death of a family member provokes reactions in each individual, as well as in the family system as a whole. Grief counseling has begun to receive special recognition, both from professionals and volunteers, and is capable of reducing the onset of psychiatric disorders.
