This essay, written as a graduate course paper, is an attempt to analyze a short story from a Discourse Analysis theoretical perspective. The object of study is a short story by the Amazonian writer Alvaro Maia, the objective being to show the influence of the empirical author s social position in the construction of the narrating voice and narrative structure.
