The author traces back the origin of the boi-bumbá ritual bulls and indicates that today’s festival already has other objectives which cannot be synthesized as the simple reverence to the ritual boi-bumbá bull, since the native or indigenous ingredients in the amazon folklore widely surpasses the framework of the ancient popular play by imposing the manifestation of the two cloth-made ritual bulls into a complex folk opera, represented in the city of Parintins located in the State of Amazonas (Brazil).
