Abstract

This paper discusses the experience of the Baniwa Traditional Medicine that was developed in the Upper Rio Negro. An analysis is made of the disease, cure and care system, which refers back to the origin of the disease to mythical events brought to date in the social conflicts faced by the group. For the Baniwa, the pathologic event is linked to the transgressive sexuality, the rebelliousness and the wars waged with others. The therapeutics exercise the power over the members of the community, discipline the body and enable the control of gender and of generation.
