Introduction: The growth rate of the elderly population is a reality worldwide. In Brazil, they correspond to more than 29 million individuals. In Amazonas, this population represents 8.8% of the total percentage. In Coari, the elderly population represents 5.3% of the total population, of which 84.6% live in the urban area (community) and 15.4% in the rural area. The aging process is influenced by the unique experiences of each individual, which determine a better or worse quality of life during old age. Research involving populations of cities and communities living in the interior of the Amazon and on the banks of the Solimões and Rio Negro rivers is scarce. Objective: To describe and profile the health, cognitive and physical-functional conditions of the elderly in the city of Coari (Middle Solimões region), Amazonas, Brazil. Materials and Methods: Articles were sought from the following sources: PubMed, BVS, SciELO and PEDro, published between January 2010 and December 2020. Result and Discussion: Coari's elderly have limitations associated with cognition, functionality and health in general, but most of them are functional, active, participatory, motivated and happy. Conclusion: Even with cognitive, physical/functional deficits, diseases and/or installed comorbidities, the elderly in Coari are active, autonomous and independent, showing that the rural lifestyle seems to have positive effects on health outcomes in old age.
