A percepção da violência por estudantes universitários durante aulas remotas de emergência/ La percepción de violencia por parte de estudiantes universitarios durante las clases remotas de emergencia
Abstract
The aim of this research was to identify whether college students perceived violent behavior from their peers and professors during the emergency remote classes implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A questionnaire was designed and administered online to 1,387 students enrolled in one of the six undergraduate programs at the FES Iztacala UNAM. We found that students reported a low perception of peer violence during the emergency remote classes, although a slight increase was noted in the perception that they felt excluded from their work teams or ignored by their peers. Students had a higher perception of violence from professors, mainly because they experienced that their professors focused more on academic content than on social interaction, and also because they became annoyed by any technological failures that occurred. We conclude that digital violence among university students is generally prevalent, but not specifically during the emergency remote classes.
