Abstract

The history of childhood and children as objects of historical research are recent themes in Western historiography and arise in the wake of the historiographical renewals that permeated the 20th century. In Brazil, interest in this theme is even more recent and, with regard to the history of childhood in colonial Amazonia, it is a path of study that is still being followed. This article presents a bibliographical overview of the productions that deal with the history of childhood, within the scope of the historiography on the Amazon region that addresses the colonial period, as well as seeking to identify in these productions theoretical and methodological matrices used by the authors, comparing them with thematic and methodological innovations introduced by the New Colonial History, produced in Brazil.
