Abstract

Those who survive incarceration encompass a wide range of people affected by the prison system, not only navigating it but also facing the stigmas it brings with it. These survivors include family members of individuals in prison, people who have served their sentences and continue their journey after the prison experience, and those who are still in a situation of incarceration. In this experience report, the challenges and battles faced in the search for access to health and fundamental rights are highlighted. The narratives presented come from family members of people who have been through the prison system, individuals who have overcome their period of imprisonment and are rebuilding their lives, as well as people under restricted freedom, showing the diversity of experiences and perspectives in this context.
