Abstract

In this article we analyze the history and memory of former workers who worked in the cultivation of jute in the period from 1950 to 1980, in the Community of São Sebastião da Brasília, located approximately 7 km from the municipality of Parintins, in the interior of the State of Amazonas, region of the Lower Amazon. We seek to analyze the history of experiences with work and their working conditions in the jute cultivation process based on the methodology of Oral History. In carrying out interviews with former workers, who currently live in the community, our intention was to value their voices and illuminate their historical sense, and through their life trajectories we evidenced what their working conditions were like and what the economic consequences were. community work, for men and women in the heyday of jute production in the Amazon.
