POTENTIALITIES OF CHRONICLES BY LIMA BARRETO AND CARETA MAGAZINE IN HISTORY TEACHING
Abstract
This article seeks to investigate the potentiality of Lima Barreto's chronicles, published between 1920 and 1922 in Careta magazine, for understanding the process of modernization of Rio de Janeiro society that took place in the early twentieth century. Added to this is the objective of understanding in what ways literary and printed sources can contribute to an alternative to traditional History Teaching. Along the way, the materiality of the journal, the author's trajectory and the context in which both were inserted were studied. Then, it is proposed to use a chronicle by Lima Barreto and the respective edition of Careta in which it was published for History classes. It is concluded that the critical report elaborated by Lima Barreto through his varied chronicles, as well as the characteristic aspects of Careta magazine, are quite rich for the construction of a teaching of History that intends to be more interactive, complex and diversified.
