Abstract

This article is the result of the PIBIC discussions entitled "Crime and Criminalization in the Press: Social Movements and Urban Life in the city of Manaus (1985-1989)", which sought to reflect on the press as an "active force" in the representation of criminality and criminalization of social movements and other urban actions in the capital of Amazonas in the years 1985 to 1989, focusing on the problematization of the newspapers do Comércio and A Crítica in the period. Advancing in the investigation of the thematic conjuncture and broad experience of those historical subjects in that context, what is evidenced now is the trajectory of women's struggles in those groups and their contradictory representation in the printed sheets of those periodicals. From the sources, their presence is highlighted, as much as the questioning of this documental set provided the opportunity to understand important methodological extensions of the historiography on gender in the region, enabling the analysis by expanded theoretical perspectives of the participation of these women in the process of invention of democracy in the state and country at that time.
