Abstract

This article discusses the representation of historical agents in Amazonian history books, focusing on indigenous and portuguese people. It analyzes curricular knowledge in History Teaching, aimed at High School at the time, and the challenges of teaching regional and local history, considering characters valued and not valued in the books by Arthur Reis (2001), originally published in 1965, and Manuel Callado (1999). The methodology used is bibliographical research, which revealed fundamental differences in the treatment of these agents in each historical context, with intentions of exclusion, displacement and invisibility of some themes or characters. Taking into account the socio-historical political context of each author, the results point to significant challenges in teaching Local History in the Brazilian educational context.
