Abstract

THE ROLE OF CITIES AND THE PROTECTION OF VULNERABLE POPULATIONS AND THEIR WAYS OF LIVING

ABSTRACT

The right of human peoples, recognized by the 1988 Constitution, still faces complex challenges in Brazil for its implementation. Urban centers also concentrate a large number of people with conditions of various vulnerabilities, whether biological or cultural. Thus, this article aims to report the role of cities and the protection of vulnerable populations and their ways of life, contextualizing the theme and its concepts. It was noted that the focus of such an analysis is on the occupation of urban land by economically vulnerable populations in order to identify the interconnections between social and territorial vulnerability, considering local regulations regarding this occupation and conflicts between different interests present in the scenario of this ordering. Thus, it is up to public managers to create, strengthen and expand local and global bonds in order to develop an effective critical awareness in individuals.
