The following questions were asked: "What is soil?", "How do soils form?", "What are the functions of soil in the environment?", "What is the importance of soil knowledge in your professional training?". The application of the questionnaire, presented that in general the students have several and different perceptions on the subjects related to an area of soils, brought from basic education. From this, it is concluded that the use of questionnaires is another efficient initial assessment tool for students, which offers the teacher an assessment of the students' level of knowledge, allowing the planning of activities that meet the student's need for use, allowing an effective approach that enables better teaching and learning.
