EDUCACIÓN SOCIOEMOCIONAL EN ESCOLARES DE PRIMARIA EN TIEMPOS DE PANDEMIA POR COVID-19
Abstract
This paper presents the results of an experiential workshop carried out in a full-time primary school in the municipality of Tlalnepantla de Baz, State of Mexico, with sixth-grade primary school students in virtual mode, via Zoom. The workshop was developed as part of the social service of the students of the upper cycles of the psychology bachelor’s degree of the Iztacala Faculty of Higher Studies, UNAM Campus located in the community where the intervention was developed. The detection of needs was carried out through the demand of the school, as well as by questioning the school children themselves. Thus, the objective of the workshop was for sixth-grade students in the context of the pandemic to advance in the recognition and appreciation of themselves from different contexts of participation. After 9 weekly sessions lasting 40 minutes, it was found that the intervention genuinely promoted the well-being of the children and helped them to have a greater recognition of their emotions. It was identified that what is most missed about face-to-face school is peer interaction, while the workshop strengthened empathy and teamwork skills. We conclude that the greatest contribution of our intervention lies in the fact that, beyond having fully and masterfully fulfilled the objective, our work sets the precedents for a new education modality never explored before.
