a study on environmental education in public schools in the city of tenente Ananias – RN

This article presents reflections on the knowledge and practices of basic education teachers, highlighting the challenges and opportunities for the advancement of Environmental Education (EE) in an interdisciplinary approach. It aims to investigate the aspects that hinder the work of EE in municipal and state schools in the municipality of Tenente Ananias (RN), from the perception of teachers. From a quali-quantitative approach, data were obtained from a semi-structured questionnaire containing 18 questions. Through the analysis of the results, it was noticed that the teachers are aware of the importance of working with EE in basic training, however, because it is an optional theme, it is little worked in the region, considering that this is not part of the curriculum, being worked on in an interdisciplinary way. In addition to the fact that professionals have difficulty developing practices in this related area, due to lack of training/training, and planning evidenced from the research data, these limitations are reflected in their pedagogical practices, also caused by an excessive workload. In view of this, the teaching profession is understood as an area of arduous action, in which professionals need to overcome themselves every day to deal with the obstacles that society presents to us. Thus, in order to work with EE, it is necessary to break with these paradigms, in order to achieve success in the training process and play a transforming role, capable of developing sustainable practices for possible environmental problems that the contemporary world presents.
