reflections for the practice of school psychologists
Keywords:
Bullying; school psychology; mental healthAbstract
Bullying is a violent, social, and multifaceted phenomenon that harms the mental health of children and adolescents worldwide, and occurs mainly in schools. This study, through a narrative review of non-systematic literature, aimed to address the issue of bullying and relate it to the areas of psychology, school/educational psychology, and mental health, highlighting its consequences for children and adolescents' mental health, in addition to reflecting on the practice of school psychology professionals related to the prevention and confrontation of bullying. It is known that the psychologist in the school context must have, among other attributions, the work with inclusion and overcoming violence in the educational environment. Therefore, this review did not use systematic criteria from the literature in its analysis. However, studies have shown that bullying negatively affects students' mental health, as it can cause learning difficulties, increased anxiety, low self-esteem, problems with socialization, school phobia, school dropout, depression and even suicide, if there is no preventive and assistance work related to it.
