The Social Roles of “Being a Woman” and their Perceptions in the West

The Theory of Social Representations consolidates and reaffirms what once came from common sense between the individual and society, this theoretical basis made possible the present article and the course conclusion work that was the result of the analyzes carried out, as the objective was to seek these representations of Being-woman. Which was understood as a social construction influenced by cultural norms, values and beliefs and, basically, society has defined, over the centuries, what is appropriate or not for the female role. During the studies, it was possible to understand the social representation of the female role in its historicities and its repercussions on women's lives, aiming to point out the changes in women's social roles over time, as well as showing the different ways in which women was and/or has been seen in Western society, in addition to analyzing the achievements of space, autonomy and rights acquired by women over the years. The type of research used was bibliographical research, and the method was a qualitative, exploratory approach. Thus, it was possible to realize that although the rights, recognition and space that women have been bravely conquering throughout history, the struggles and challenges continue and need to increasingly become the subject of debates, public policies and movements that allow us to move towards to an egalitarian society.
