Abstract

The training of Physical Education teachers is understood as a crucial point and in recent years it has gained prominence regarding the needs for innovative and quality practices in the teaching and learning process. The northern region has a globally recognized festival, the Parintins Folklore Festival, whose oxen bring current and relevant discussions to society using Amazonian cultural elements. This study aimed to analyze the knowledge of teachers of Physical Education courses in Manaus in relation to the Amazonian cultural elements present in the boi-bumbá as a training instrument. For this, qualitative research and semi-structured interviews were used, with content analysis by Bardin (2016), together with five teachers from Physical Education courses at four higher education institutions in Manaus who teach/taught disciplines of expressive rhythmic activities and /or gymnastics, chosen by purposive sample. As main results, it was noticed that teachers have little knowledge about the Parintins Folklore Festival and that they do not use the content of the boi-bumbá beyond metrical dance movements. It is concluded, therefore, that training focused on art education is necessary, introducing teachers to the importance of understanding the context in which they live, in order to educate with the Amazon itself in mind.
