Contemporaneity has been constituted by a series of facts that allow us to question our own existence. Thus, the aim of this study was to understand the perception of higher elementary and high school students from schools in the municipal and/or state public education system about self-destructive behaviors in adolescents, considering risk factors and protective factors from the perspective of Phenomenology. It is a study based on a qualitative research approach, using the phenomenological research method with a descriptive, exploratory and reflective character. The analysis was based on the theoretical perspective of Martin Heidegger. The proposal of Carl Rogers' Meeting Groups was used, with audio recording of the activity and subsequent transcription. 22 students from 6th to 9th grade participated. It should be noted that the project's goal is to contribute to the improvement of the education and health system in the sense of providing subsidies for the elaboration of strategies that enable the execution of actions related to protective factors regarding self-destructive behavior in the school community. 3 categories of analysis were elaborated: a) The perception of the origin of the behavior; b) The various dimensions of self-destructive behavior; c) Looking at the suffering of the other: Care is experienced. It is concluded that there is a need to understand the pluridimensionality present in these themes, considering that it is a rapidly growing phenomenon that crosses instances where adolescents transit, family and school and the possibility of carrying out activities from the psychological duty on prevention of self-destructive and self-injurious behaviors.
