The aim of this paper is to present, briefly, Ihara Saikaku's Kôshoku Ichidai Otoko, offering information on its author, and placing it within the panorama of Japanese prose literary production in the Edo period, known as Kinsei shôsetsu, as a starting point for the teaching of Japanese literature of the period in question, without the pretense of presenting all the details. It also features illustrative topics and texts, based on Kobayashi Yasuharu's summary of the book “Arasuji de yomu Nihon no Koten” and Ihara Saikaku's original, Kôshoku Ichidai Otoko published by Kadokawa Publishing House.
