Reisado as a genuine manifestation of Popular culture in Viçosa, Ceará

Abstract

This article presents discussions and results collected in an ethnographic study about a group of Reisado in the municipality of Viçosa do Ceará. The reasearch was carried out in a small-time cut, through interviews with two members of the local Reisado group. Based mainly on the studies of Cascudo (2006) on Oral Literature, the article emphasizes, primarily, the value of the oral tradition of the Reisado for the identity of the inhabitants of the locality of Sítio Cacimbão. We highlight in this work some of the main aspects about this tradition, also bringing a reflection aroud the different views of our interviewees around the play of the Reisado, demonstrating what they reflect for the future of this popular practice in the rural area of the city of Viçosa do Ceará.
