the following paper intends to discuss the importance of reading practices from the usage of children literature in the classroom. This way, we will provide the space to theoretical discussions on literary literacy as a privileged practice of reading in opposition to the simple reading, as well as discuss the concepts of proper and improper literature schooling. Our purpose, then, is to demonstrate that shaping new readers happens based on the student’s active behaviour, who must be able to articulate and connect the diverse previous reading they already possess, in order to create a new meaning to the text whose reading has been assigned to them.
