ROGUES AND MISCHIEVOUS: A POETICS OF ROGUERY IN THE HISTORICAL NOVEL ERA NO TEMPO DO REI, BY RUY CASTRO

Abstract

The article analyzes the novel Age in the time of the king: a novel about the arrival of the Court. Launched in 2007, the work written by Ruy Castro is part of the tradition of the new historical novel, a vein that presents, as one of its hallmarks, the rewriting of texts characterized by a high parodic tone, in addition to the use of hybridisms as a way of offering to the reader new views of facts and personalities, as occurs with the novel under study. Such resources guarantee the vitality of the romance genre, giving this narrative the peculiarity of constituting an unfinished genre, if we think about aspects related to the theorizations proposed by Bakhtin. Among the various possibilities for analysis, the study focuses on the character's narrative category. The study links the main characters to the tradition of trickery.
