A Problemática das Uniões Prematuras do Grupo Étnico Macua Metho, Distrito de Balama, Província de Cabo Delgado (2017-2020)
Abstract
The practice of early marriages in the Macua Metho ethnic group has brought with it several problems for girls, most notably the fact that girls drop out of school due to the difficulty in managing household responsibilities. One of the major problems arising from this practice is early pregnancy, and these marriages also restrict their opportunities, increasing the risk of suffering, not to mention the health risks. The high number of early marriages is caused by adverse factors such as the practice of initiation rites, excessive literacy, the customs and habits of this society, which means that the wealth of the family lies in the large number of children; the lack of occupation and entertainment for girls and boys, and the poverty that resides in this ethnic group. Therefore, it should not be thought that the research, which has the greatest impact on society, aims to end the practice of early marriages in the Macua Metho ethnic group, but rather to ensure that they occur in accordance with what is enshrined in family law, only for those over the age of 18. Considering that in our country, marriages are what guarantee the pursuit of family goals.
