SCHOOL, MAYAN COMMUNITY AND INTERCULTURAL PROCESS IN MEXICO

ABSTRACT: Stigmas of the same history: colonization, in Mexico was incomplete: independence was obtained against Spain, but the internal colonial structure was not eliminated, because, they have still held power since 1821, they have never renounced the civilization project of the West '[...] (Bonfil 2008: 11). These attacks have denied the 'deep civilization', that they’re cosmogonic, linguistic and imaginary roots. For these historical debts, this article will analyze indigenous intercultural education in Mexico, with Mayan-Yucatecan children. Focused on qualitative research and an anthropological-pedagogical-critical theoretical framework, the following analytical categories were analyzed in a context of extracurricular, family friction, child socialization, the pragmatics of the Mayan language, as well as the strategic role of teachers indigenous and non-indigenous. Interpreting the relations of the indigenous identity process of indigenous children in Mexico, from five points of colonization and submission of these peoples, are still indispensable, where the westernization project gains ground to the detriment of their cultural, educational and linguistic rights.
