ESSÊNCIA E REPRESENTAÇÃO: FILOSOFIA E RELIGIÃO NA PERSPECTIVA DE AL-FĀRĀBĪ

Resumo

Este artigo investiga as funções da filosofia e da religião no modelo de Cidade Virtuosa proposto por al-Fārābī. A análise das diferenças entre o discurso filosófico e o religioso emerge da distinção fundamental entre os dois métodos alternativos para o alcance da verdade: o essencial e o representativo. A religião mostra a felicidade aos cidadãos de forma alegórica e busca torná-los virtuosos transformando o discurso teórico-demonstrativo da filosofia em representações e alegorias, utilizando argumentos dialéticos e retóricos. Neste trabalho, será realizado uma análise acerca da Cidade Virtuosa e do papel desempenhado pela filosofia e pela religião. Serão abordadas questões relacionadas à interação entre esses dois campos do saber, levando em consideração suas influências na governança e na construção da Cidade. Para tanto, faz-se uso de uma pesquisa bibliográfica tendo como base as seguintes obras de al-Fārābī: Da Política; Livro da Religião; O livro das Letras.

Abstract:

This article investigates the functions of philosophy and religion in the model of the Virtuous City proposed by al-Fārābī. The analysis of the differences between philosophical and religious discourse emerges from the fundamental distinction between the two alternative methods for achieving truth: the essential and the representative. Religion shows happiness to citizens in an allegorical way and seeks to make them virtuous by transforming the theoretical-demonstrative discourse of philosophy into representations and allegories, using dialectical and rhetorical arguments. In this work, an analysis will be made of the Virtuous City and the role played by philosophy and religion. Issues related to the interaction between these two fields of knowledge will be addressed, taking into account their influences on governance and the construction of the City. For this, a bibliographical research is used based on the following works of al-Fārābī: The Political Writings; Book of Religion; The Book of the Letters.
