Suicidal behavior and online research in psychology
Abstract: This article presents a critical analysis, based on a theoretical essay, whose aim was to investigate the methodological and ethical foundations of online research in cognitive psychology on suicidal behavior, taking into account safe research protocols for participants, rigor and validity of data collected through research in the various methodological approaches in cognitive research. This study is divided into four sections: the first presents some theoretical foundations related to Suicidal Behavior and Cognitive Psychology; the second session is based on the methodological and ethical aspects of online research developed in Cognitive Psychology; in the third session, analyzes related to research on suicidal behavior are promoted, which used online data collection, involving aspects related to: applications, validity, reliability, risks, benefits, ethical and safety aspects for research participants; finally, some contributions to guidelines for safe protocols in online research regarding suicidal behavior and cognition were pointed out. It is concluded that in the development of research related to Suicidal Behavior, several obstacles can be found, especially when data collection uses instruments in the online format. Despite divergences about the inclusion or not of this type of participants in this area of research, several studies indicate that methodological rigor and ethical foundations can offer safer protocols, in addition to benefiting the participants.
