Abstract

This article presents the results of a master's study, which aims to characterize the current situation of environmental education in the final series of elementary schools of municipal schools located in the rural area of ​​the municipality of Castanhal in the State of Pará, analyzing the data to indicators and parameters of critical environmental education. As a result, it was observed that environmental education in the municipality has been developed prioritizing from the conservative perspective, not covering the environmental complexity as part of the discussions in the schools. On the other hand, it is noticeable a preoccupation of the educators in approaching the curricular contents with the social reality of the students, nevertheless, they find difficulties for its concretization.
