LEVANTAMENTO DE ANIMAIS SILVESTRES ATROPELADOS NO CONE SUL DE RONDÔNIA: IMPLICAÇÕES NA PERDA DA BIODIVERSIDADE AMAZÔNICA LOCAL
Abstract
In Brazil, the predominant means of transport is by road, therefore, the highways cross extensive natural areas, crossing all Brazilian biomes, especially the Amazon. Roads fragment habitats, being one of the most cited causes of species extinction and loss of biological diversity. In this way, the present work aims to identify the existence of pedestrian accidents involving wild animals in the Southern Cone of Rondônia, in order to avoid or reduce the mortality of the Amazon fauna. The study was carried out on BR 435, state of Rondônia, extending from the cities of Cerejeiras to Vilhena. Each animal found was photographed and removed from the track to avoid re-counting. The animals found were identified at the specific taxonomic level and the locations where the hit animals were found had the geographic coordinates taken through GPS. A total of three species were run over, and a rare species found dead in the urban area. A smaller number of pedestrian accidents were observed on BR 435, given that some mammals and birds of prey feed on dead carcasses, removing them from the road, or even with the rainy season, to which the running water takes them. animals run over off the road. Therefore, a longer period of study on the highway is necessary to obtain more information on the actual number of species run over.
