VARIÁVEIS PESSOAIS E CONTEXTUAIS DIFERENCIADORAS DAS EXPECTATIVAS ACADÊMICAS DE ESTUDANTES INGRESSANTES NO ENSINO SUPERIOR
Abstract
The academic trajectory of students entering in Higher Education goes through transition, adaptation and success or failure throughout their training. In the context of the transition, academic expectations deserve to be highlighted, as they are related to the strategies students face the challenges of higher education. This paper analyzes possible differences in expectations according to some characteristics of the students. The sample consisted of 525 students from the Federal Institute of Paraíba (IFPB, Brazil) answering the Academic Perceptions Questionnaire - Expectations Version which identifies seven dimensions of expectations. A differential analysis of the results was performed according to their age and being the first time that the student attends the educational institution. Younger students have higher average expectations when compared to older students who study for the first time at IFPB. The same is not true of the institution's former students. Older students have jn general higher expectations than younger ones. These data suggest the relevance of taking the characteristics of the students in the analysis of their expectations, being important that the institutions of higher education consider the diversity of students in the development of early diagnoses and interventions to prevent failure and dropout.
