Domestic Violence and Cearense Masculinity:
A Critical Literature Review through the Phenomenological
Keywords:
Men who commit violence; Violence against intimate partners; PhenomenologyAbstract
This article aims to discuss, through a critical literature review from a phenomenological perspective, domestic violence and masculine identities in Ceará. The focus is on intimate partner violence against women, the processes of male gender construction in the Northeas, especially in the state of Ceará, and the intersections of patriarchy and its impacts on the (de)construction of male subjectivity. It is concluded that, although legislation has expanded protection for women facing violence, punishment alone is not an effective solution. Understanding violent relationships from a historical-social perspective, combined with the rehabilitation of perpetrators and ongoing education, is essential for building a fairer society in which violence is not part of conjugal relationships.
