an overview of the Psychology of Adolescence today

The period of adolescence is a significant part of psychology studies on human development. This article discusses the development stage, including the adversities and discoveries that arise during this period. From an overview drawn from the historicity of adolescence, the historical context of the construction of adolescents' mental health to the establishment of the rights of children and adolescents, the work presents the importance that Psychology gives to this period of development, pointing out the social and relational challenges faced by adolescents, as well as their positions on topics such as the use of Technology/Social Media, sexuality and gender roles. The discussions listed in units of meaning were made possible through conversation circles, construction of collective dialogue, creation of mental maps and socialization of knowledge in a seminar format, with third period students, participants in the Adolescence Psychology discipline of the Course of Psychology. The categories of analysis revolved around self-image problems and how this affects adolescent development, drug use in adolescence, the importance of the family and sexual education. Therefore, the new horizons brought by the material studied help to understand, for example, the meaning of campaigns to combat bullying and suicide. That is why understanding adolescence is necessary for every Psychology professional.
